  • £500 in months one to six
  • £1,000 in months seven to nine
  • £1,500 in months ten to twelve
2nd & 3rd Un-tiered, interest and fee-free Planned Overdraft of up to £1,500
4th to 6th Un-tiered, interest and fee-free Planned Overdraft of up to £2,000

Representative example
If you use a Planned Overdraft of £1,800 on our Student Account in your second year the overdraft interest rate we charge on the first £1,500 will be 0% EAR variable. The overdraft interest rate on the next £300 will be 8.21% EAR variable and a Monthly Overdraft Usage Fee of £6 will apply.

All overdrafts are subject to application, status and approval.

How to apply for a Student Account

Make an appointment at any of our branches.

You'll need to bring;

  • your UCAS confirmation letter or a letter from your university or college confirming your place;
  • if you aren't already a Bank of Scotland customer, a piece of ID such as your driving licence or a 10 year passport and proof of your address (anything official with your name on it that's less than three months old, but not a mobile phone bill).


You will need to:

  • be a permanent UK resident for the past 3 years;
  • be aged 17 or older (you will not be eligible to apply for an overdraft until you are 18);
  • confirm that you are studying full time on an eligible course of at least 2 years' duration, or a one year full time access course leading to a degree.
