Renewable energy
As governments around the world strive to reduce the reliance on fossil fuels, decrease emissions and combat global warming, renewable energy schemes are becoming increasingly important.
Since the Bank lead-arranged a £90m financing for SELCHP, one of the UK's first waste-to energy projects, in the 1990s, we have acted as lead or sole arranger in a diverse range of renewable projects, including biomass (such as chicken litter), hydro, landfill, gas and wind. By developing relationships with key sponsors within the sector, we have built up specialist knowledge of a number of technologies utilising a wide range of fuel sources.
Wind energy
The wind energy sector has become increasingly important for governments seeking to meet renewable generation targets and is a particular area of expertise for the team. We have a growing portfolio of wind transactions, with exposure to a significant number of projects across UK and Europe in which the Bank has acted as lead arranger.
Emerging areas
As the green energy sector further develops, we will seek to provide finance solutions in emerging areas such as solar, bio-fuels, clean coal and wave/tidal.
Fossil fuels
The power sector has undergone unprecedented change in recent years as ownership has moved from the public to private sector. This has created a demand for finance, not just to acquire existing plants, but also to fund the construction of new, cleaner and more efficient generation facilities. In the UK, there has been a significant move from oil and coal to gas fired generation.
Since the early 1990s, we have played a major role in the financing of large power projects in the UK, Continental Europe and North America. We have supported finance for power sub-sectors too, such as inter-connectors, transmission and distribution.
All this experience, together with our considerable financial strength, means we are ideally placed to continue providing financing solutions for fossil fired power generation projects to meet the world's ever-increasing power needs.
