Further Information for Personal Customers
Internet Banking
As part of our ongoing improvements we have made some changes to Internet Banking to allow you to benefit from the introduction of the Faster Payments Service.
Faster Payments
Faster Payments is a new banking initiative allowing you to make electronic payments in sterling (24 hours a day, 7 days a week), in hours rather than days. This is a major change to the way banks transfer money, delivering a real benefit to customers. The Faster Payments Service will be available in addition to the current Bacs and CHAPS service.
From the initial launch on 27 May 2008, most Bank of Scotland accounts have been able to receive Faster Payments, meaning that funds sent via the Faster Payments Service may now arrive in your account earlier than they did before.
From September, as part of our phased roll out, Bank of Scotland customers will be able to request immediate and future dated payments to be sent via the Faster Payments Service.
The Changes
Payments
To provide the option to send payments via the Faster Payments Service we have introduced a Faster Payment and Additional Info column to the Payments screen.
The Faster Payment column contains a checkbox to allow you to elect to send the payment faster. This will always be set to OFF unless the checkbox is selected and will only be available on Faster Payment enabled mandates. The Additional Info column has an ‘Add’ button to allow you to add additional information.
If you select for the payment to go faster this will enable the ‘Add’ button under the Additional Info column allowing you to add any further details you may wish to include.
Faster Payments will have the same functionality of other payments – for example, the ability to view, move, delete, amend and cancel a payment.
Please note there may be a transaction charge for the Faster Payments Service. Furthermore Personal customers will not be charged for this service.
Account Details and Statement
Faster Payments Status Screen
When selected, the new Faster Payment Service will, in the majority of cases, allow the funds to be transferred from your bank account to the beneficiary in up to 2 hours but generally in a matter of minutes. An additional benefit is the ability to track the progress and ultimate outcome of your payment(s) with the introduction of a Faster Payments Status Screen.
The Status column will display the current status of the payment. Single, immediate payments will have a status of ‘In Progress’, ‘Accepted’, ‘Qualified Accepted’, ‘Rejected’ or 'Returned’. Faster future dated payments will have a status of ‘In Progress’, ‘Sent’, ‘Rejected’ or ‘Returned’. Exact narratives will show in the status column.
The screen can be accessed via the Account Details and Statement screen. When selected, the screen will allow you to view the details of all Faster Payments created or sent within the last 14 days. In addition, there is an option to refresh this screen which will update the status of any payments, assisting in your account management.
Faster Payments Detail Screen
The introduction of the new Faster Payments Service provides the ability for additional information to be sent with a payment. A new Faster Payment Details screen has been introduced to allow you to add and view this information. The two new fields that are available for population are referred to as ‘Additional Reference’ and ‘Further Details’.
If there is any additional information with a Faster Payment, either sent or received, the Details button within the new Additional Info column will be enabled and when selected will take you to the Faster Payment Details screen listing the details of the payment and the additional information.
The easy way to identify a Faster Payment is that only Faster Payments have a Details button under the Additional Info column.
For inbound Faster Payments you can also view any additional information from the Statement screen by selecting the Details button if it is enabled.
