Luxury spending at its best in Southampton

November 2007

« Back

The luxury Yacht market proves it has ridden the wave of recent turbulence in the financial markets following a ten day spending spree at the Southampton Boat Show. Leading marine finance provider Bank of Scotland Marine Finance recorded strong levels of sales from its dealers at the end of summer show, which saw thousands of visitors discover the latest marine offerings.

Larger yachts were among the most popular purchases at the show but spending was not curbed here. Various sized boats were purchased with particular success for Bank of Scotland Marine Finance dealers, who enjoyed remarkable sales and good levels of business confirming a robust market place despite the current economic climate.

Peter Whitehead, Director at Bank of Scotland Marine Finance says: “This year has been a very surprising boat show. There has been some uncertainty in the industry following recent events but Southampton has proved that luxury spending is still as strong as ever. Several dealers have taken deposits for vessels showing a strong forward order book and highlighting the confidence level in the industry at the moment.

“The show is important in terms of sales, but also allows us to build relationships with our dealers existing and new, and manufacturers. And, by simply immersing ourselves in the industry, we are more easily able to identify trends.”

According to figures released by National Boat Shows, which organises the event, 127,000 people attended the 10 day show covering the period 14 September to 23 September 2007. Attendance was up by 8% from last year which was helped by dry fine weather.
