  • If built to special order, it is advisable to read the RYA booklet ‘Buying a New Yacht’
  • Make certain the boat builder / dealer is using a BMF / Royal Yachting Association (RYA) approved contract
  • Agree on the specification and any additional equipment agreed
  • Check whether the price is fixed
  • Check whether the delivery date is guaranteed
  • Check whether the boat will be CE marked*
  • Check at what stage does the boat become yours and when do you become responsible for the insurance
  • Check that the seller (dealer or agent) can guarantee clear title and, if so, how?
  • Check what documentation will be provided?
  • If buying with finance, check whether the Bank will arrange registration for you. (Part 1 Registration recommended in most cases.)
