Savings Account Charges

This section tells you about the charges that apply to the following accounts for standard account services and special services, and about the interest you'll be charged if your account goes overdrawn.

Charges for standard savings account services

CHAPS fee

If you ask us to transfer money electronically from your account to another UK account using the CHAPS system we’ll charge you a fee of £25.

The fee you pay will be calculated after we’ve converted the money into sterling. We’ll do this on the day we pay it into your account.

Copy statements

If you request a copy of a statement that has previously been issued to you, you may be charged a fee of £5 for each request. You will not be charged this fee if you have a passbook or use Online Banking and are registered for paper-free statements or if you have not previously been sent the statement.
We may make an additional charge for excessive requests (such as for many duplicate statements). However, we will let you know beforehand so that you can choose whether or not to continue with your request.

Charges for special services

1. Special presentation — you may ask us to specially present a cheque for a fee of £10.
2. Foreign currency, travellers cheques and cross-border transfers — you may ask us to use a number of special services relating to foreign currency, travellers cheques and the telegraphic transfer of money abroad. Ask at any of our branches for details.

Withdrawals by banker’s draft

If you request a withdrawal by banker’s draft you will be charged a fee of £20 for each draft.

Using your card abroad
When you use your debit card abroad to withdraw cash at cash machines, the exchange rate we use will be the Visa Reference Exchange Rate. We’ll charge a conversion fee of 2.99% of the amount of the transaction and a service fee of 1.5% of the amount withdrawn, with a minimum charge of £1.50 for each withdrawal.

Savings charges information

Cash machine charges

Where you have a cash machine card to use with your Halifax savings account, we don’t charge you for taking money out of your savings account at a Halifax or LINK cash machine. Please note that if you make a withdrawal using a non-Halifax cash machine, the bank, building society or organisation that owns the machine may charge you. The amount of any charge will be taken out of your account.

When you use your card abroad to withdraw cash at cash machines, the exchange rate we use will be the Visa Reference Exchange Rate. Interest for overdrawn accounts

If your account goes overdrawn we’ll charge you interest at a rate of 7%.

Withdrawal by banker’s draft

You cannot withdraw any amount less than £500 from your savings account by banker's draft.
