Important information
Using Bank of Scotland Visa debit and Cashpoint cards abroad
Fees will apply when using your Bank of Scotland Visa debit and Cashpoint cards abroad and these will depend on the type of account you hold. When you use your debit card to pay for goods and services, or your debit card or Cashpoint card to withdraw cash at cash machines, we will charge both a transaction fee and a foreign exchange fee. Travel Money
Ordering
When you order money online or over the phone, the minimum order limit is £50 and the maximum is £2,500 (£1,500 if using a Bank of Scotland and Halifax debit card) per order.
The maximum overall order limit over a 60 day period is £3,000. There's no minimum or maximum for branch orders.
Payment
All Travel Money orders must be paid for at the time of placing the order.
To use the Travel Money service online or by telephone, payment by credit or debit card is required. The service is available in branch by paying from your Bank of Scotland current account or a suitable savings account. Payment and transfers are not available from fixed rate or fixed term accounts and withdrawals from certain savings accounts may be subject to restrictions and loss of interest.
Availability of currencies
We will make every effort to supply the currency you’ve ordered. In exceptional circumstances which may be out of our control, if we can’t supply the currency you ordered, then we will advise you of an alternative currency to take re-credit your account or provide a refund at the price that we sold the foreign currency to you.
Handling charges
If you use your Bank of Scotland Visa debit card to buy Travel Money from us we won’t charge you a cash handling fee. If you use a MasterCard credit card there will be a charge. Cash advances and card handling fees may apply to debit and credit cards please refer to the terms and conditions of your card provider.
Delivery
We can only deliver to the British mainland and Northern Ireland, and it must be to the cardholder’s billing address or to a Bank of Scotland branch. Orders placed in a branch can only be delivered to that branch.
Home delivery orders will be sent via Royal Mail Special Delivery, requiring a signature from the delivery address. If an order is not received on time or an incorrect order is received please contact your branch. Where there is no-one to accept and sign for the delivery the order will be held at a local Royal Mail depot for three weeks.
The home delivery option is only available after you give consent to allow your name and address details to be passed to third parties to be used only for that purpose.
All travellers' cheques must be signed in the top left hand corner immediately upon receipt to comply with the American Express purchase agreement included with your traveller's cheques.
Failure to collect
If you fail to collect your Travel Money order within 10 days of placing it, then your order will be cancelled and you will receive a refund based on the buy-back exchange rate for that day. Cancelled and reduced orders will also be refunded at the buy-back exchange rate of that day.
Different collection times will apply for orders placed on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays immediately before a bank holiday.
Buy-back
The price at which we buy back your currency may differ from the price at which we sold it to you. This means that you will usually receive back less than you originally paid. There are minimum denominations we can accept in certain currencies. Details of these are available on request.
We may not be able to re-purchase currency if a country becomes embargoed or we no longer deal with that currency.
As a Bank of Scotland customer you will not be charged commission on buy-backs. You qualify as a customer of ours if you have a current account, savings account, business account, credit card or loan with us.
If you’re not a Bank of Scotland customer, we will buy back up to £500 of foreign currency banknotes commission free and there will be a 1.5% charge (minimum £3 with no maximum) on the amount of foreign currency American Express Travellers Cheques cashed in at Bank of Scotland branches.
Identification
Customers without a Bank of Scotland current or savings account must show either a valid passport or a full driving licence, in addition to the card the money was purchased on, when collecting or requesting a buyback of Travel Money/American Express Travellers Cheques from a branch.
Foreign bank notes
Foreign bank notes are supplied by Travelex Currency Services Limited.
American Express Travellers Cheques
All American Express Travellers Cheques are issued by American Express Travel Related Services Company, Inc. a New York corporation, except cheques denominated in GBP which are issued by Travellers Cheque Associates Limited.
