Open a Platinum Account for £17 per month to take advantage of a range of useful benefits, such as travel insurance and mobile phone insurance, provided by third party suppliers. You can also earn interest on your credit balance by adding Vantage during the application.

Bear in mind that there are other accounts available to you that provide banking facilities without additional benefits, and which do not have a monthly account fee.

In addition to the benefits you get with our Classic Account, our Platinum Account comes with the following added value benefits for £17 a month:

  • Worldwide travel insurance for you and your family including winter sports cover. All cover stops on the account holder’s 80th birthday. Insurance is underwritten by AXA Insurance UK plc.
  • AA breakdown insurance with Roadside Assistance, Relay, Home Start and Accident Management. Cover is provided by Automobile Association Developments Limited ( trading as AA Breakdown Services).
  • Mobile phone insurance administered by Lifestyle Services Group Limited with a single Insurance provider, Assurant General Insurance Limited.
  • Card loss assistance is provided by Citymain Administrators Ltd.

  • Add Vantage to earn 2% AERCloseAnnual Equivalent RateThis illustrates what the interest rate would be if interest was paid and compounded once each year. This allows you to compare more easily what return you can expect over time. (1.98% grossCloseGrossGross rate means that no tax will be automatically deducted from interest on your behalf. You are responsible for paying any tax due to HMRC.) variable interest on balances of £1 - £5,000. Vantage is a free add-on to your Platinum Account which you can add during your application. Interest is paid monthly. You won’t earn interest on any amount over £5,000. Each calendar month, simply pay at least £1,000 into your account, stay in credit (above £0) during the monthly billing period, and pay at least two different Direct Debits from your account. If in any month you don’t meet these criteria, you won’t earn any interest but you won’t be charged for having Vantage.
  • Access to our Internet Banking and the Mobile Banking app, 24-hour telephone services as well as any of our branches in Scotland.
  • A VISA debit card enabled for contactless payments.
  • Free mobile alerts.


Please note: From the 1st July 2018, we are making some changes to Platinum accounts.
The Platinum monthly account fee will increase from £17 to £19 per month.
The Mobile Phone Insurance excess will also change to £100 for all handsets.
You will also be limited to 2 successful Mobile Phone Insurance claims per account holder in a 12 month period.
Additionally, we will be changing the interest you can earn on Vantage accounts. The current interest rate of 2% AER/1.98% Gross variable, payable on balances between £1 and £5,000, will reduce to 1.5% AER/1.49% Gross variable. To earn interest, you will still need to pay at least two different Direct Debits each calendar month, pay at least £1,000 into your account during the calendar month, and stay in credit (above £0) during the monthly billing period.   • The standard maximum trip duration is 45 consecutive days (for Winter Sports maximum 31 days cover in any calendar year)
  • £40 excess may apply
  • Medical conditions that you and anyone to be covered have, or have had, if they are not all on the ‘No Screen Conditions’ list must be declared and cover agreed with the insurer (there may be an additional premium if the insurer agrees to cover the condition(s))
  • All cover stops on your 80th birthday. As long as you are under 80 your spouse, civil partner or partner will also be covered until they reach 80.

Keep in mind the cover is provided whilst you are a United Kingdom resident and are registered with a medical practitioner in the United Kingdom.

  • Insures one phone on a sole account and two phones from joint accounts
  • Repair or replacement phone up to a maximum of £2,000 (including VAT)
  • Covers loss, theft, damage or breakdown (including faults)
  • Excess is £100 for Apple iPhone* claims, £50 for all other handsets.

*iPhone is a trademark of Apple inc, registered in the US and other countries

Keep in mind unauthorised network charges are only covered in the event of a successful loss/theft claim.

Keep in mind you'll need to pay a contribution of £100 for Apple iPhones and £50 for all other handsets each time you make a successful claim (this is the excess).

It’s recommended that you register your phone details as it may help simplify the process for any claims you might have to make in the future. Call Platinum Membership Services on 0345 602 0201 to provide your mobile phone details. Alternatively, log into Internet Banking, view your Platinum Account benefits and then select Mobile Phone Insurance.

Card loss assistance is provided by Citymain Administrators Ltd (part of SPB UK & Ireland Group Companies).

Guide to Changes

If you are upgrading and don’t already have a Planned Overdraft you can apply for one once you complete this application.

Applying for this product does not improve your eligibility for an overdraft.

The Platinum account offers a £300 fee-free overdraft (subject to application and approval). This means that you won’t pay a daily planned overdraft fee if you stay within this amount.

Please note:

  • A daily overdraft fee of 1p per £7 will apply on usage over the fee-free amount.
  • Any overdraft we agree is repayable on demand, including any fees and is subject to application and approval.
  • You must be 18 years old or over to apply.

Representative example

If you use a Planned Overdraft of £1,200 on your Platinum Account, then we’ll charge you a daily overdraft fee of £1.28. For Platinum Accounts, the daily overdraft fee on the first £300 is 0p.

Earn 2% AER variable on balances of £1 - £5,000 by adding Vantage.

To qualify, each calendar month simply pay at least £1,000 into your account, stay in credit (above £0) during the monthly billing period, and pay at least two different Direct Debits from your account.

If in any month you don’t meet these criteria, you won’t earn any interest but you won’t be charged for having Vantage.
