Check you can apply for this business bank account

You must be the owner or director of a business, and:

  • be at least 18 years old
  • be a UK resident with a UK mobile phone number
  • be applying for a UK business with a UK trading address
  • the business must have an annual turnover of more than £3 million, unless you're applying on behalf of a school or credit union.

If you're opening a limited company bank account, your business must:

  • be registered in the UK
  • have been registered with Companies House for at least 4 days
  • have no changes made to the Companies House register in the past 4 days
  • have an 'active' status on the Companies House register.
  • Your personal information will be held by Bank of Scotland, part of Lloyds Banking Group and shared within the Group and with other companies that provide services to us so that we can look after your relationship with us. 

    We may also share your personal information with credit reference agencies (CRAs) and fraud prevention agencies. We do this to assess creditworthiness and product suitability, check your identity, manage your account, trace and recover debts and prevent criminal activity including fraud and money-laundering. If fraud is detected, you could be refused certain services, finance or employment.

You, and any additional account parties, can complete your application and verification digitally, and your account could be opened within 4-8 days.

What does this mean?

Your company registration number is a unique combination of numbers and letters to enable accurate identification. It Is used to identify your company and verify it’s legal existence.

You’ll find your registered company number on your certificate of incorporation or on the Companies House website.

What does this mean?

An exempt charity must be based in England and Wales but can’t register with the Charity Commission. It is not directly regulated by the Charity Commission and instead has a principal regulator. 

  • Churches and chapels belonging to some Christian denominations.
  • Charities that provide premises for some types of schools.
  • Scout and Guide groups.
  • Charitable service funds of the armed forces.
  • Student unions.
What does this mean?

A charity is an organisation aiming to help people in need and improve social well-being. This could be through educational, religious or other activities.

You will have either a Charity Number from the Charities Commission or Scottish Charity Register (OSCR), or a Companies House Registration Number (CRN) that you will find on your certificate of incorporation or the Companies House website.
