Theft – Security Conditions

You must comply with the following security conditions within 45 days of the start date of your policy. If you do not follow these conditions, you will break a condition of your policy which may result in non-payment of all or part of a claim for theft or attempted theft.

Double Doors (French doors or windows) – Double doors must be fitted with either a lock which can be locked by a key from both the inside and the outside, a key operated multi-point locking system, key operated security bolts (fitted top and bottom) or an anti-lift device plus one key operated patio door lock.

Main Entrance Door – A 5-lever mortice deadlock or a key-operated multi point locking system must be used to secure the main entrance door. The lock you choose needs to be able to be locked and unlocked from both the inside and the outside.

Sliding Doors – Sliding doors must be secured by either a lock which can be locked by a key from both the inside and the outside, a key operated multi-point locking system, key operated security bolts (fitted top and bottom) or an anti-lift device plus one key operated patio door lock.

Windows – Windows and skylights which open and are accessible from the ground without a ladder, or from adjoining roofs, porches, or down pipes, require key operated window locking devices (including key operating multi-point locking systems).

Other Doors – Other external doors, including access doors from integral garages, must be secured by any lock which can be locked by a key from both the inside and the outside. This includes key operated multi-point locking systems, or key operated security bolts fitted horizontally at the top and bottom.

Louvre Windows – All panes must be securely fixed with suitable adhesive in their brackets.

Garages – All doors and opening windows should have at least one key operated locking device activated. All locking devices must be used, with keys withdrawn from the locks and stored out of sight whenever the home is left unattended OR when the occupants go to bed at night (except windows in occupied bedrooms).
