Your cover explained
We recognise that everyone’s home insurance needs are different. That’s why we offer two levels of cover for you to choose from.
Bank of Scotland Home Insurance – a tailored, flexible offering and Bank of Scotland Home Insurance Comprehensive – a more inclusive offering where additional cover and higher limits are included as standard.

Here’s a full list of covers we offer. Select a section for an overview of what’s covered:

Private residence
Buildings insurance
This covers the private residence including integral and attached garages and conservatories, gates, fences, paths, driveways and patios. This includes:
- replacement locks and keys
- alternative accommodation if your home becomes uninhabitable
- accidental damage to underground services
- trace and access and emergency access cover in the home perimeter
- property owner's liability.

Contents insurance
This covers contents in the private residence including contents in integral or attached garages and attached conservatories. This includes:
- replacement locks and keys, freezer contents, visitors’ belongings, clerical business equipment, money and cards
- alternative accommodation if your home becomes uninhabitable
- occupier’s and public liability cover.

2.
Replacement of sets cover (available with Home Insurance Comprehensive)
Buildings insurance - This cover is only available with Home Insurance Comprehensive
Where there is a valid claim, this covers the changing or replacement of any associated undamaged items that form part of a matching set or suite that is lost or damaged where a reasonable match cannot be obtained. By ‘reasonable match’ we mean this may be similar but not an exact match. This includes:
- Replacing undamaged kitchen units because their matching units are damaged; or
- Replacing an undamaged bath because a broken toilet cannot be matched.

Contents insurance - This cover is only available with Home Insurance Comprehensive

- Replacing an undamaged sofa because a matching armchair is damaged.

Accidental damage cover
Buildings insurance
This covers damage caused accidentally. This includes:
- football smashing a window
- DIY accidents
- slipping in the bath causing it to crack
- snapping a key in the lock.

This covers damage caused accidentally. This includes:
- spilling wine on a carpet
- snapping a key in a lock
- knocking over and damaging a TV.

Outbuildings cover
Buildings insurance
This covers structures detached from your private residence. This includes:
- sheds
- summer houses
- garages.

Pedal cycle cover
Contents insurance
This covers loss or damage including accidental damage to pedal cycles. This includes:
- cover when the pedal cycles are in your home
- cover for pedal cycles within the boundary of your home
- cover for pedal cycles temporarily away from your home.

Contents in outbuildings and in the open cover
Contents insurance
This covers contents in detached outbuildings. This includes:
- clothes
- BBQ’s
- tools
- gardening equipment
- lawnmowers
- freezer contents
- domestic fuel and water.
This also covers contents in the open within the boundaries of your home. This includes:
- garden furniture
- ornaments
- pot plants.

Students’ contents away from home cover
Contents insurance
This covers students' contents away from home. This includes:
- contents and personal belongings away at university halls of residence or rented student accommodation
- accidental damage.

Personal belongings away from the home cover
Contents insurance
This cover is for items carried or worn outside the home (individually worth no more than £3,000), such as:
- jewellery
- spectacles
- watches
- laptops
- tablets
- mobile phones
- money and/or cash cards

High risk items
