How we use your personal information

Our main use of your personal information is to look after your account(s) or to provide the specific service you have requested.

Members of the Lloyds Banking Group may use your details to inform you by letter, telephone, email or otherwise about any special shareholder offers, products or services offered by our group of companies and selected third parties, unless you ask us not to do so.  If you wish to opt out of this service, you can contact us by phone on 0845 606 1188  or by email at sharedealing@bankofscotland.co.uk. Remember, however, that opting out will stop you receiving information about any of our products or services, which may benefit you.

If you do not want to receive unsolicited mail from other companies, you can prevent this by registering with the Mailing Preference Service.  There are also Telephone, Fax and email Preference Services, which enable you to object to receiving unsolicited, marketing phone calls, faxes or emails.  To register, simply telephone the appropriate number:

Mailing Preference - 020 7291 3310
Telephone, Fax and Email Preference - 020 7291 3320

For more details about all the Preference Services visit the Direct Marketing Associations website at www.dma.org (new window)

Crime prevention and detection

We also have systems that protect our customers and ourselves against fraud and other crime. Customer information can be used to prevent crime and trace those responsible. We may check your details with fraud prevention agencies. If false or inaccurate information is provided and fraud is identified, details will be passed to fraud prevention agencies. Law enforcement agencies may access and use this information. We and other organisations may also access and use this information to prevent fraud and money laundering, for example, when:

  • Checking details on applications for credit and credit related or other facilities;
  • Managing credit and credit related accounts or facilities;
  • Recovering debt;
  • Checking details on proposals and claims for all types of insurance;
  • Checking details of job applicants and employees.

Please telephone us on 0845 604 5494* if you want details of those credit reference agencies and fraud prevention agencies from whom we obtain and with whom we record information about you. We and other organisations may access and use from other countries the information recorded by fraud prevention agencies. You have a legal right to these details.

Recording of calls

We may record or monitor telephone calls to or from us.  We do this to help maintain the quality of our service and to train our staff

Credit referencing

We'll perform a search with a licensed credit reference agency who will keep a record of our search. We do this to establish your credit worthiness only and not to extend a line of credit.
