With Save What MattersTM you’ll never need to worry about losing all your contacts, photos or songs on your mobile phone. If you change your phone, lose it, damage it or it gets stolen, you’ll be able to get all your details back again.
All you need to do is download the Save What MattersTM application to your mobile phone.

How it works
All you need to do is register online and then download the Save What MattersTM app to your mobile phone.
If you have a smart phone and lose your mobile or it’s stolen you can access the security features* on the Save What MattersTM website to:
- Track your mobile phone’s location,
- Lock it down to stop it from being used,
- Set off an alarm on the mobile phone itself, and
- Wipe all the data stored on the mobile phone.
If you have already registered for Save What MattersTM and downloaded the app, log back on to Save What MattersTM online to access all the data you’ve backed up. Remember, you have to go via Bank of Scotland Internet Banking.
If you’ve forgotten your password, just follow the ‘forgotten password’ link and it will be emailed to you straight away.

How to register
To find out more about Save What MattersTM and to start using it, go to your Account Benefits tab in Internet Banking.
You’ll need to have to hand:
- Your mobile phone.
- Your mobile number.
- Your mobile phone make and model.
Then follow the simple steps below.
- Log into Internet Banking,
- In the Account Benefits tab for your Added Value Account, go to ‘Save What Matters’ and follow the ‘Register’ link.
- Once at the Save What MattersTM website, enter your details and follow the instructions as shown.
- A link will then be sent to your mobile phone so you can download the app and back up the data on your mobile phone.
How long will it take?
The registration process is simple and takes only a few minutes to complete. Depending on the amount of data that you’re backing up for the first time, this may take a little while.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Save What MattersTM cost?
There is no charge for Save What MattersTM for Bank of Scotland Gold, Platinum, Premier and Private Banking Premier account holders. However, whilst we don't charge for data transfers, your mobile network provider may (see below) so please check with them.
Will I be charged for transferring data?
Whilst we don't charge for data transfers your mobile network provider may so please check with them. Data charges will be dependant on your network and how much you download and upload. If you do not have an unlimited data plan for your phone, we strongly encourage you to use the Wi-Fi option. We recommend you use a trusted and secure Wi-Fi connection to do this.
What if I don't have an unlimited data plan for my phone? Can I still back up my phone's contacts list?
Yes, you can back up your contacts and other data from your phone using either your carrier's data connection or using a local Wi-Fi network. If you do not have an unlimited data plan for your phone, we strongly encourage you to use the Wi-Fi option. We recommend you use a trusted and secure Wi-Fi connection to do this. Whilst we don't charge for data transfers your mobile network provider may so please check with them.
Can I use Save What MattersTM with an iPhone?
The iPhone is compatible with the security features of the Save What MattersTM service. However it can’t back-up videos or music, you can use iTunes to back up these files.
What kind of mobile phones and information can Save What MattersTM protect?
The service works with most popular smartphones running on one of the following platforms; Android v1.5 or above or iPhone iOS v3.0 or above (cannot back up music or video files). Even if you don’t own a smartphone, we may be able to help you back up your data. Please call membership services pressing the options for mobile phone insurance, for more information and speak to the mobile phone insurance team.
How long does the initial backup take?
The amount of time it takes to complete your first backup will depend on a variety of factors such as the amount of memory within the mobile phone, the processor speed of the mobile phone, your Internet connection speed and the overall amount of data to be backed up. Once a mobile phone's data is backed up successfully, subsequent backups will be relatively brief as only new or changed files are backed up.
How do I keep my Save What MattersTM information up to date?
This will depend on the type of handset you have. Subject to handset compatibility, you can synchronise your phone’s data with the Save What Matters™ website using ‘over the air’ technology available through the Save What MattersTM app. We recommend doing this on a regular basis and by default the app will automatically backup your data every 24 hours. You can also update your Save What MattersTM information through the My Account section of the Save What MattersTM website. If you change your phone, or it is lost, stolen or damaged, all of your saved data can be transferred onto the new handset and you can use the Save What MattersTM security features to remotely lock, track alarm or erase the data on your phone.
Can I retrieve my data stored on Save My Numbers™?
Save My Numbers™ is now closed so it is not possible to save or retrieve data on this service. If you wish to continue to back up your data you will need to register for Save What Matters™.
