STRUCTURING AND TRANSFERRING YOUR WEALTH
If your aim is to pass your wealth on to your family, we can work with you to help you try to achieve this in the way and at the time that's best for you.
Structuring and transferring your wealth
We all have different goals in life, so it makes sense to have the right strategy in place to achieve them.
Our services will help you make sure you have the right financial provision in place. We’ll help you to make decisions to protect your family, dependants and favourite charities. We will introduce you to our preferred service provider to help you meet your needs.
These services can include:
Personal Tax Service
Specialist tax advice is key to managing your wealth. Private Banking can introduce you to leading tax advisers Ernst & Young LLP to provide a full Personal Tax Service. They can help you complete your tax return, make use of your legitimate exemptions, and ensure you pay the right amount of tax, as well as provide insightful expertise on broader and longer-term tax considerations. Ask your Private Banking contact for more details.
Making a Will
Making a will and keeping it up-to-date is the only way you can ensure that when you die, your wishes are clear. Dying without a will could leave your partner without any rights or protection if you’re not married. If you don’t have close family, your estate could pass to a distant relative you do not wish to benefit or do not know or even to the Crown.
The Will Writing Service aims to give you the peace of mind of knowing that everything is set out clearly in a legal document. The service is provided by Hugh James Solicitors who deliver a comprehensive range of services to customers in England and Wales. They will even store your will without charge. You will have the option to appoint us as Executor and Trustee to your will. For customers who require a will under Scottish Law, Hugh James will work together with Brodies LLP.
Administering an Estate
Administering an estate when someone dies can be daunting, especially if you were close to the person who died. Our service is available where we are appointed as an executor under the terms of a will, where an existing executor does not feel able to act or where there is no will in place. You don’t have to be an existing customer to use the service. This service is provided by Bank of Scotland.

Whatever your individual circumstances, setting up a trust could be the right decision for the future with the added flexibility of tax efficiency. A trust can help you protect your wealth, making sure the people that matter to you most are the ones who benefit in a way that you want them to at the right time.
Your Inheritance Tax liability depends on your individual circumstances. Your tax rules may change in the future. Bank of Scotland provide a professional Trust Management Service supported by a team of experts who can act impartially on your behalf and design the right solution for you. You can appoint Bank of Scotland to act as a trustee in your lifetime, or under the terms of your will.
