Changes to Online Investments
We’re updating our Online Investments accounts to give you more control.
What’s changing?
Your Online Investments account is moving to become a Share Dealing Account or Stocks and Shares ISA. We’ll keep your money invested in the same funds and your charges will remain the same.
We’ll take care of the move for you – there’s nothing you need to do unless you’d prefer to choose another option.
Managing your funds
As well as our Ready-Made funds which are managed by experts on your behalf, you’ll have access to thousands of other investments.
Your new account
What are my options?
We know how important your investments are, so want to make sure you understand the options you have.
Whichever option you choose, we won’t charge you any fees for transferring.
Account transfer
-
We’re making changes to our investment accounts, which means this is an account we’ll no longer offer. So your Online Investments Account will be moved to a Share Dealing Account or Stocks and Shares ISA from 12 September 2026.
-
No. If you’re happy with the changes, we’ll move your investments, including any Regular Payments and Regular Investment Plans, and any cash automatically from 12 September 2026. You only need to take action if you would prefer a different option. We’ll also move over your Book Cost, so this will remain the same.
-
No. Your investments will stay as they are, so there’s no need to sell anything as part of the transfer.
-
Yes. Make sure your details, including your email address and debit card details, are right. You should also download any historical documents you may need, such as statements or trade confirmations, before your account is closed.
-
You can choose a different option by 07 September 2026. You can choose to transfer to another provider, or sell your investments and withdraw the cash.
-
You can close or transfer your account at any time. We won’t charge you to do this, but all outstanding admin charges must be paid.
Transfers, withdrawals & tax
-
Yes. If you have an ISA, you can transfer to another provider. You’ll need to contact your new provider to request the transfer. We’ll then sell your investments and transfer the cash. You shouldn’t sell the investments yourself as this will result in the cash being withdrawn from the ISA – and it’ll lose its tax efficiency.
We must receive the transfer request by 07 September 2026.
-
If your account is empty by 10 September 2026, we’ll close it automatically. You don’t need to contact us.
-
Possibly. Selling investments may have tax implications, such as Capital Gains Tax. If you withdraw money from your ISA, it may also affect your annual ISA allowance as you won’t be able to add it back in this year without using your allowance.
Pricing, charges & interest
-
If you choose to trade in UK shares, Investment Trusts, Bonds, Gilts and ETFs, you’ll pay £9.50 for every online trade, or £25 for every trade by telephone.
International trading is free, with a foreign exchange charge of 1.25%.
Regular investing using our Regular Investment Plan is free.
-
No – we don’t pay interest on cash balances held in Share Dealing Accounts or Stocks and Shares ISAs.
Your account details
-
Your new account gives you access to a wider range of investments, including UK, US and European shares, funds, Investment Trusts, Bonds, Gilts and ETFs.
You’ll also be able to view and manage your investments through our mobile banking app and make one-off payments from £2 and regular payments from £20.
-
The first collection of your Bank of Scotland Share Dealing fee will be charged to your account in April 2027 and collected in May 2027.
-
Yes, to do this you need to change your regular subscription.
You can do this by:
- selecting ‘Dealing’ on your account
- selecting ‘Regular Investments’, and ‘Subscription Plan” then ‘Amend’
- entering how much you want to transfer, how often, and the date.
You should also check your ‘Investment Plan’ to make sure all your money is invested as you intend.
-
You can do this by setting up a Regular Investment, see FAQ, or by a one-off payment.
For a one-off payment, you need to:
- log in to your account
- select ‘Account Management’
- select ‘Fund and Withdraw’ and follow the instructions on the screen.
Once you’ve added money to your account, you’ll then need to give us an Investment instruction. To do this:
- log in to your account
- select ‘Dealing’
- select the tab for the investment you want to purchase (UK, International or Funds)
- find the asset you want to buy
- enter the amount you want to invest
- select ‘Deal now’.
Once this has been completed, you’ll get a contract note confirming the details.
-
- Log in to your account.
- Select ‘Account Management’.
- Select ‘Change Debit Card’ and follow the instructions on the screen.
-
You can’t switch between the funds anymore. You’d need to sell your existing holding and then place an investment instruction for the new fund you want to buy.
-
- Log in to your account and select the account where the investments are held.
- Select the ‘Plus’ sign, then ‘Sell’.
- Enter the number of shares to sell, or the amount you’d like to raise, for example £1,000.
- Select ‘continue’ and if you’re happy with the quote, select ‘Deal Now’.
If you want to use this money to buy something else, you’ll then need to give us an Investment instruction. To do this:
- select ‘Dealing’
- select the tab for the investment you want to purchase (UK, International or Funds).
If you want to withdraw the money to your bank account when your trade settles, you’ll need to give us this instruction.
You need to:
- select ‘Account Management'
- select 'Fund and withdraw' and follow the instructions on the screen.
