Before you start

Before reducing your arranged overdraft limit make sure:

  • The new limit you choose is higher than the amount you currently owe on your arranged overdraft.
  • You’ll still have enough money or available arranged overdraft to cover any upcoming payments such as direct debits, standing orders and debit card payments.

If a payment can’t be made or you go into an unarranged overdraft, this could hurt your credit score.

If you're worried about your finances

Talking to us, or an independent organisation, won't affect your credit score. If any of the support options we discuss could affect it, we'll explain what that means for you and help you understand the support available. You'll then have time to consider your options before deciding what to do next.

If you’d rather speak to someone independent these organisations can offer help and debt advice for as long as you need it. And they can talk to us for you if you’d like them to.
