We need to see your ID before your 18th birthday so we can change your Smart Start accounts to a Classic Account and Access Saver.

Providing proof

First you will need to register for Internet Banking if you haven't already done so. Once registered you'll be able to use our app to send us a selfie and a picture of your passport to confirm your ID.

How to register for Internet Banking

1. Welcome

After you have downloaded the app, open it up and select Let's get you logged in.

2. Let's get you logged in

To start registering for Internet Banking select Create login details.

3. Registration is simple

It should only take a few minutes to get set-up. To start with you'll need to input your name, email, date of birth and postcode.

4. Enter your account details

To register for Internet Banking, please select one of your accounts shown. Once registered, you'll be able to view all of your linked accounts.

5. Create secure login details

Think of details that you'll remember, as you need them to log in. Never share them with anyone.

6. Now create memorable information

This is not a password, but an extra security step.

Make sure it's something you'll remember.

Once you're registered, you'll just need three characters from your memorable information to log in to the app. 

7. Internet Banking agreement

You must view our Internet Banking agreement. To continue, you must agree to these terms and conditions. 

8. New code ordered

You're almost fully registered for Internet Banking.

To finish registering you for Internet Banking, we've sent your parent or guardian your activation code in the post. They should get it in the next seven days. Then you can use this code to log in to Internet Banking for the first time.

9. Activation code received

You'll need to go back into the app and log in to Internet Banking using your username and password.

10. Enter the activation code

Enter the code from the letter that we have sent to your parent or guardian to complete the Internet Banking registration process. 

11. Input the requested characters from your memorable information

We'll ask for you to enter three randomly selected characters from your memorable information.

12. You're now registered for Internet Banking

Only you can access your account from the app on your device. All you'll need next time you use the app to log in securely are three characters from your memorable information.

13. Security settings

If you haven't been active in the app we will automatically log you out. You can select which length of inactivity leads to logging out from the options provided.

14. Face ID

You can choose to use Face ID or to keep using memorable information to log in. Here you can select which option you would rather use. If you're unsure you can select Ask me later and we'll ask again in the future.

How to prove who you are

1. Log in

You can verify your ID from within our app. First you need to log in and then select More from within the Spending Account section.

2. Manage your Spending Account

Select Confirm your ID from within the Manage Account section of your Spending Account.

3. We need to see your passport

We need to see your passport before your 18th birthday so we can change your Smart Start accounts to a Classic Account and Access Saver. This can be a UK/EU passport. 

4. Provide a photo of your passport

  • Place your passport on a flat, dark surface.
  • Make sure there ais good lighting with no glare or shadows.
  • Open it at the page with your picture.
  • Take care not to place your fingers over your personal details.
  • Align it to the on-screen template.
  • We'll automatically take the picture when the passport is ready.

5. Provide a photo of yourself

  • Stand against a plain dark background with your face well-lit and no bright light behind you.
  • Ask someone to take a photo of you or just take a selfie.
  • Make sure a scarf, hat or glasses are not covering your face.  
    • If you must wear glasses, they can’t be sunglasses or tinted.
    • The frames or any glare, reflection or shadow must not cover your eyes.

6. Thank you for providing the required photos

We'll check the photos you've sent us and email confirmation to you within the next 24 hours.
