Using your credit card abroad

You no longer have to tell us when you are travelling abroad.

Our fraud and security systems are always on the lookout for suspicious activity on customers’ accounts meaning you really can relax when you are away.

Fees and charges

You should always be aware of any costs involved in using your credit card abroad. For example, if you withdraw cash at a Cashpoint.

Your spending abroad is protected

Most credit card purchases more than £100 and up to £30,000 are covered by Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 – even purchases abroad.

This means you can claim compensation if you were using your credit card on holiday and something went wrong or the company you booked with goes into administration.

Visit our Section 75 page for more information

Things to remember before you go

  • Check your cards’ expiry dates so they don’t run out while you are away.
  • Take another form of payment in case of emergency.
  • Make sure your contact details are up to date so we can get in touch if we are concerned there may be fraudulent activity on your account.
